Ultrasonographic Evaluation of the Knee

Ultrasonography is one of the most widespread diagnostic methods for musculoskeletal system imaging. Images are obtained after the production and detection of ultrasonic waves based on the piezoelectric phenomenon from transducers, allowing the study of tissues based on their physical characteristics.

The rapid technological advancement of ultrasound machines in recent years, with the use of high-frequency transducers, as well as the evolution of newer ultrasound techniques, especially the use of tissue harmonic imaging and compound imaging, has led to the production of high-resolution images, with exceptionally detailed visualization of the soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system. Furthermore, the use of the Doppler technique and elastography provides useful information about neovascularization and tissue hardness.
